POSITION DESCRIPTION:
client is looking for a driven, energetic, hands-on Product Development Manager to join our team in Amherst, NY.
The Product Development Manager is responsible to plan, direct, manage and coordinate product and process research & development activities to identify and procure commercially viable technologies and materials to drive growth. Projects will focus on process, product, and applications development for new and improved products to meet market and customer needs or to develop new processes for more economical or sustainable production of existing products.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Chemical or Ceramics), Physics, or Materials Science required. Master's degree preferred
2 - 3 years of experience in an engineering or R&D role within an industrial manufacturing environment required
3 - 5 years of experience of market development of industrial products in at least two current market segments (i.e. thermal management, polymer processing technology, semiconductor, etc.) and technology transfer experience
Experience with Boron Nitride and/or ceramic dispersions preferred
Strong project management skills, including leading and executing both short term and long-term projects.
Strong organizational skills, as well as thorough, detail-oriented and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously
Must possess good interpersonal skills and the ability to build cooperative working relationships
Must take ownership and actively manage cost and results
Must possess analytical thinking & use digital tools, data analysis, and the application of scientific principles, to translate customer/market needs into product value propositions
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS / ADDITIONAL DESCRIPTION:
This position provides technical leadership and direction to meet the strategic business goals and manages the global R&D portfolio with activity in US, Europe & China. The incumbent is the subject matter expert for customer interactions and co-development with partners. The role also provides technical services and support to Marketing, Manufacturing and Quality Assurance.
Presentation of data in oral and written reports to articulate and convey project developments to all appropriate management levels is required, as well as conducting surveys in relevant patent areas to identify and pursue proprietary opportunities
The role requires utilizing scientific, engineering & innovation principles alongside new process and characterization technology.
Develop, manage, and improve existing products with existing customers/markets – 40%
Develop and manage the new product pipeline with existing customers/markets – 40%
Develop and manage new product pipeline with new customers/markets – 20%
The incumbent works independently with some limited direction provided from the R&D Director for Specialty Grains & Powders, and the Business Manager for Boron Nitride. This role directly manages a Product Development Engineer, including providing direction, support, and development opportunities.
Expected Travel Requirements: 30%
Travel could include customer site visits, internal site visits, trade shows, etc.
International travel is infrequent but may be required.
